Colts Summer Band.
The Colts Youth Organization launched the Colts Summer Band in 2006 to provide a performance ensemble opportunity and summer lessons for instrumental music students in grades 5-8. Nearly 50 young people were members of the group in the inaugural year.
The program runs four weeks, and includes a weekly sectional rehearsal and three weekly concert band rehearsals. The season culminates on June 28 with a concert at the Alliant Energy Amphitheater in Dubuque.
Colts Summer Band co-directors are Staci Amosson, band director at Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School, David Thom, elementary director for the Dubuque Community Schools, and Dan Norman, retired director from Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School. The Dubuque Area Summer Band program was founded by Cynthia Mueller, former band director at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Dubuque.
The summer band uses the wonderful facilities at Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School and benefits from our strong and growing partnerships with the Dubuque Community School District and the entire community.
You can view the 2024 Summer Band Letter here. The letter contains information about the program including dates and times for each rehearsal. Colts Summer Band costs just $50 for the entire program including a FREE Colts Summer Band t-shirt, and a $40 scholarship is available to any student who is eligible for their school district's Free & Reduced-Price Meals program.
