STAFF ANNOUNCEMENT | Colts Visual Team Brings Continuity And Consistent Approach

November 13, 2025

Visual Staff Announcement

The Colts are excited to announce a revamped visual staff to lead all aspects of the marching program and choreographed visual elements of the 2026 production. The team will be led by Visual Caption Head Zac Chowning. Zac is a known face within the organization — especially to brass members — and he’s been a part of Chad Miller’s brass staff since 2023. Joining Zac in a leadership capacity is Assistant Visual Caption Head Nancy Fleming. Rounding out the team are nearly a dozen visual technicians — including several familiar faces and alumni of the corps.

Zac has a strong background in marching and visual performance as director of bands at Oviedo High School in Florida. As a performer, he finished his career in 2011 with The Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps — long known for their detailed style and marching proficiency.

“I’m incredibly honored and excited to step into the role of visual caption head with the Colts,” said Zac. “This organization has felt like home to me for the past three years, and with drum corps shaping nearly 30 years of my life, it’s truly special to continue giving back to a place that has given so much to the members and staff. My goal is to continue bringing excellence to the program while creating an environment built on clarity, trust, and growth. I’m thrilled to collaborate with our outstanding members and our dedicated, talented staff. I’m committed to ensuring that every rehearsal, rep, and conversation moves us closer to the excellence we know the Colts capable of achieving.”

Learn about other members of the team on the Colts staff page including Paul Circo, Danielle Monahan, Jake O’Brien, Erik Stauffer, Patrick Sheehan, Jared Brockmeyer, Cristian Caiola, Trevor Gagnon, Riley Dolan, Omar Negron, and Xander Lee.

"I am elated to have Zac step into this role,” said Colts Director Vicki MacFarlane. “Zac allows a continuity in approach and familiarity for our membership, as well as an immediate chemistry with the other caption heads and staff. This really gives us the 'hit-the-ground-running' mentality that we desire looking toward 2026.”

Zac concluded, “Most importantly, I want this to be an educational experience that empowers performers, not just for the summer, but for their own programs and future leadership roles. Together, we will build something meaningful, memorable, and undeniably strong. I can’t wait to get started.”

The Colts design team is continuing to create and shape an amazing program for the coming season. We cannot wait to share — but in the meantime, we need to begin building the drum corps and that starts November 28-30 with our first audition weekend at Taylor High School in Kokomo, Indiana (just north of Indianapolis). You can earn your place in the Colts by enrolling in the Red Zone and downloading the audition materials for your section. Please register for camp so we know you’re coming and let us know on the RSVP what your travel plans are. Find out everything you need to know about November camp in this News article, but if you have questions, be sure to reach out to Asst. Director Kathleen Ballard, kathleen@colts.org

We look forward to meeting you soon!
