Colts January Camp Canceled Due To Weather
January 10, 2024
We are disappointed to announce that the Colts camp scheduled for January 12-14, is now canceled due to Winter Storm Gerri. The forecast calls for over a foot of snow in Chicago to go along with 30-35 mph winds. We anticipate air and highway travel — from all directions leading into Dubuque — are going to be severely impacted so, in the interest of safety for our students and staff, we feel it’s best to cancel our event.
“The combination of snow and wind being forecasted is unlike anything I’ve experienced through many years of hosting winter camps here in Dubuque,” said Executive Director Jeff MacFarlane. “We were really excited to get back together following successful camps in November and December, but Mother Nature has other plans for us this month.”
The Colts staff is currently planning opportunities for a virtual experience on Saturday via Zoom. Announcements will be sent to students via email and posted on our social media channels.
The January camp was to include brass and percussion students looking to earn their position in the 2024 Colts. We will continue filling out the corps with a one-day audition event in Nashville on Sunday, January 21, for both brass and percussion students, and a three-day camp in Dubuque on February 23-25, for brass students. We are going to look at the possibility of adding percussion to the February weekend camp with those camp details to be announced sometime next week.
So when did winter storms start getting names, anyway?
Keep up the great offseason work and we will see you somewhere down the road!
