Colts Electronics Lead

Colts Drum & Bugle Corps is looking for a LEAD AUDIO ENGINEER to elevate the corps’ 2023 program. Sound design and production are critical components to our success and we need a creative problem solver to join our team.

The lead audio engineer should be able to design the sound system (mixer, speakers, microphones and other audio components), and also be responsible for building and deploying the system while working with the design team and caption heads on implementation and maintenance.

Ideally, this person would have a majority of the summer free to tour with the Colts, and work with our corps administration on assembling a team to facilitate the electronics caption.

“As the use of electronics has become more sophisticated over the years, it’s become critical for a lead electronics staff person to have an absolute understanding of the whole,” said Corps Director Vicki MacFarlane. "We’ve had some great people on the board and now we’re looking to add someone who can oversee the operation from design through implementation on the field, and bring our 2023 production to another level.”

If this sounds like you, we encourage you to APPLY TODAY. Or if this sounds like someone you know, please share our information and this link. This is a great opportunity to work with our synergistic team of drum corps pros! #oneteamredteam

Colt Cadets Director

The Colts Youth Organization is seeking the next director of the Colt Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps. For the first time since 2001, the person leading the Colt Cadets will not be required to accept full-time employment which we believe will open the pool of candidates to individuals who may teach elsewhere and have summers available and/or reside in states other than Iowa.

The Colt Cadets have a number of senior staff who are excited to build on the consistency they’ve shown over the past two decades. Candidates for the role of director must have the summer available plus a few other weekends throughout the offseason. They should be energetic, have great communication skills, and be capable of leading a team of talented staff, eager volunteers, and students who are both on the cusp of World Class membership along with those who are experiencing drum corps for the first time. Colt Cadets will host their first in-person event in early February.

The Colt Cadets director is supported by the organization’s full-time staff — most notably Assistant Corps Director Kathleen Ballard and Colts Corps Director Vicki MacFarlane. We are already receiving a lot of interest in the 2023 corps. In addition, many members will have attended a Colts camp but found they need just a bit more experience before earning a position with the World Class corps. We also recruit in-person at schools in eastern Iowa and the tri-state area.

Colt Cadets are proud to be sponsored by the same great companies who endorse the Colts: Yamaha Corporation of America, Fruhauf Uniforms, Innovative Percussion, Remo Drumheads, Ultimate Drill Book, along with many others. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to find their place among the leadership of Drum Corps International groups. If you are ready to take the reins, or if you would like to learn more about this amazing opportunity, apply today!

We would like to take a moment to extend well wishes to former CC Director Rich Waddington as he pursues life after drum corps. We appreciate all Rich and his family gave to the organization.

Instructors & Tour Team

The Colts Youth Organization is also accepting applications for instructional staff and summer tour staff. It’s never too early to start making plans for 2023 — our 60th anniversary season. All individuals looking to be considered for design and/or instructional positions for the Colts and Colt Cadets must start with this common application. And don't forget opportunities with our admin, media and merchandise teams. (The 2023 Colts design team is already making progress on next summer’s production so anyone indicating Colts design staff on their application will be considered for the 2024 season.)

Join the Red Team! We’re committed to providing students with an incredible member experience and we would like you to be part of it. Apply today!
